Find 3 examples of a TEAM working together effectively. Write the headline or copy and paste the link and then summarize the articles.. What did they do that made them work effectively? How do you see teamwork? Was teamwork necessary for the project? 1. How the Bryan Brothers Saved Doubles: In 2005, Mark and Bob Bryan risked their careers in professional tennis by sueing the Association of Tennis Professionals Tour. On behalf of both doubles players and tournaments, the brothers felt like, “If [they didn’t] unite, there may not be a game of doubles. The lawsuit stemmed from ATP rule changes encouraging highprofile singles players to play doubles. Meaning, only players with singles rankings would qualify to play doubles events. This new change would have indefinitely phased out those players whom specialize in doubles. In the end, the ATP backed down, and the case was dismissed in February 2006. Most people in the tennis world conclude that without the Bryans’ lawsuit, doubles would now be an afterthought, or worse, eliminated. The Bryan Brothers worked effectively together because they didn’t back down. They took on an entire institution of which their careers are based. Not only did they do it for themselves and each other, but for their entire field of tennis. They didn’t back down and held strong for an entire year of legal dispute. Teamwork was necessary because their entire case was based on the concept of teamwork, that’s what doubles is essentially. They used their bond as brothers and teammates to secure the field of doubles. 2. Uber Raises Another $1.2 Billion to Deepen Push Into China: For the past several months, Uber has made it clear of it’s need for China’s business to further grow its company. The estimated $51 billion dollar company is now acting on its words. The company’s chief executive, Travis Kalanick announced this week that Uber plans to integrate in over 100 cities in China within the next year. To back up that plan the company has raised over $1.2 billion in venture capital from Chinese investors alone on top of the $7 billion raised by the company on its own. At the rate Uber is spending money to establish its operations, it will need the money. Uber is using this money to subsidize rides for customers as well as to pay out bonuses and other cash incentives to recruit more drivers for the service. Uber and China work well together in a mutual, symbiotically beneficial relationship. It’s a give and take. Chinese investors are putting large stakes into the company and in return are getting the service of Uber for commuter, as well as the employment, economic, and social benefits that come with it. Uber is investing even more money into the new area of business with a hope that this will grow the business and revenue exponentially. Teamwork is necessary for the project because both sides are invested and want to make this work. If this was a onesided deal, there would be no point. Both sides seem very eager and willing to embark on this new business venture. 3. Helping a Suicide When the End Isn’t Near: This article stood out to be extremely relevant since September 10th is National Suicide Awareness Day. The article was a basic informational piece, about the fact that several states have passed laws allowing for physician assisted suicide to the terminally ill, and many other states are considering it. Also many nations have allowed the practice for those suffering from even depression or nonfatal health problems. This is an extremely sensitive subject but it is very prevalent. The teamwork aspect come from the textbook definition of teamwork, referencing the combined action of 2 or more people. This is the basic practice of physician assisted suicide. Considered a safer, more placid, euthanization of sorts, in which two people work together to accomplish a single task. The teamwork isn’t necessary for the suicide part, but for the physician assistance it definitely is. This has been an extremely controversial issue in the media and has been for the last couple decades.
